Meteor crater and museum was interesting and educational. Guided tours are included in price of admission. Easy guided walking tour with multiple stops and large rocks to sit on while your guide talks. There also a self guided tour with platforms for taking great photos. The museum inside is interesting and will help pass the time until the next tour starts. There a coffee shop/lounge area that is connected to the gift shop. There is also a 4D movie there but it was closed when I was there. On Saturday they have full hikes around the crater but don't offer it on there day's. They also offer a pet Ramado so if you travel with pets you can check them in to cool fenced-in pen and small dog run that is connected to the car parking lot. There is also place for your motor home or RV. It's a separate parking lot next to car parking lot, just follow the signs. We paid about 28.00 for each adult Read Less

If you're heading west through Arizona on I-40, take 10 minutes and go see this unbelievable site. This is the best example of a meteor crater anywhere on Earth. The size of it is hard to imagine but it's a mile across. You could put 20 football fields down in the bottom of it and with stadium seating you could have a million spectators if the crater was a stadium. They have a great visitor center that includes a 10-minute movie. It starts every 30 minutes. Very professionally presented. And immaculate facilities. So glad I stopped by Read Less

If you love space and science, this is a must visit. The crater was used by Apollo crews to train to get ready to be on the moon's surface. Pretty amazing that it remains so well preserved. The science center / museum is pretty cool. There is a pretty hefty sized fragment of the original meteor on display as well. It only takes about an hour to see all of the museum and then when you're ready you can take a guided tour of the crater. If you're on I-40 headed out from Flagstaff towards Albuquerque it is a must see. Read Less

Visiting the Meteor Crater Natural Landmark was a truly awe-inspiring experience that felt like stepping onto the surface of another planet. The scale of the impact site is staggering, and I loved that I could take it all in from multiple perspectives, including the upper-level telescopes for a detailed look at the crater floor and the lower-level self-guided tour areas for a more personal pace. The facility is impressively modern, featuring an amazing cafeteria that was perfect for a mid-day break and a high-tech 4D show. To top it off, the visit ends in a massive, well-curated gift shop where I found some unique space-themed souvenirs. One of the best parts of the admission is that it includes a 0.25-mile guided rim tour, which provides incredible insights you won't get from just looking. However, I have to give a serious safety warning: while the tour path is technically paved, there is a significant amount of loose gravel on the surface. For senior citizens or those with mobility disabilities, this can be quite slippery and poses a real fall risk, so definitely take it slow or stick to the main observation decks. Despite the tricky footing on the trail, the site was not too crowded during my visit, allowing me to really soak in the silence and the magnitude of this natural wonder. The visitor center features two distinct cinematic experiences that are well worth the time. The main feature film, titled "Impact! The Mystery of Meteor Crater," plays every 30 minutes in a comfortable, 80-seat widescreen theater. This short movie is the perfect starting point for your visit; it uses high-definition visuals to break down the incredible science and history of the site, specifically detailing how Daniel Barringer spent decades (and his family fortune) proving that the crater was formed by a meteorite rather than a volcano. It really puts the massive scale of the impact into perspective before you step out onto the rim. In addition to the historical film, your admission includes the "Collision! 4D Experience." This is a much more high-energy, immersive show where you join "Commander Perseus" and "First Officer Jackie Lopez" on a mission to intercept an asteroid headed for Earth. It features moving seats and special effects that make you feel like you're flying into the crater itself. Both shows are included with your ticket and offer a nice, air-conditioned break. Just keep in mind that the theater is located near the Discovery Center, so it's a good idea to check the next showtime as soon as you arrive so you can plan your rim tour and telescope viewing around it.
